Appearance
The banded palm civet has a
slender, elongate body and a tapering, pointed snout.
It is usually whitish to orange-buff in color, with
dark stripes on the head and neck, behind the shoulders
and at the base of the tail. Body: 41 - 51 cm (16
- 20 in), tail: 25 - 38 cm (9 3/4 - 15 in) |
Description
A nocturnal animal, the banded
palm civet is a good climber, with strong feet well
adapted to arboreal life, and it forages for its prey
in trees, on the forest floor and beside streams. |
Regions
Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo in
forest |
Diet
Worms and locusts are its main
foods, but it also eats ants, spiders, crustaceans,
land and aquatic snails and frogs. |
Breeding
Little is known of its breeding
habits, except that the female produces 1 offspring
each pregnancy. |
