Description


Greater rheas live in flocks of 20 to 30 birds.

Regions

South America, east of the Andes in open country

Diet

They feed on plants, seeds, insects and small animals.

Breeding

At breeding time, the male displays and gathers a harem of females. He leads his mated females to a shallow nest which he has prepared, and they all lay their eggs in this one nest, making a clutch of up to 18 eggs, which the male incubates.
