Hog Badger
Arctonyx collaris

Appearance

Similar in shape and size to the Eurasian badger, the hog badger is distinguished by its white throat and mostly white tail. The common name refers to the badger's mobile, piglike snout, used for rooting for plant material and animals. Body: 55 - 70 cm (21 1/2 - 27 1/2 in), tail: 12 - 17 cm (5 - 6 1/2 in)

Description

A nocturnal animal, it spends its day in a rock crevice or deep burrow; its habits are much the same as those of the Eurasian badger. Like all badgers, the hog badger has anal scent glands with potent secretions, and its black and white markings constitute a warning that it is a formidable opponent.
