Hog Badger
Arctonyx collaris

Appearance
Similar in shape and size to
the Eurasian badger, the hog badger is distinguished
by its white throat and mostly white tail. The common
name refers to the badger's mobile, piglike snout,
used for rooting for plant material and animals. Body:
55 - 70 cm (21 1/2 - 27 1/2 in), tail: 12 - 17 cm

Description
A nocturnal animal, it spends
its day in a rock crevice or deep burrow; its habits
are much the same as those of the Eurasian badger.
Like all badgers, the hog badger has anal scent glands
with potent secretions, and its black and white markings
constitute a warning that it is a formidable opponent. |

in wooded regions in uplands and lowlands |
Diet
Fruits, bamboo shoot, plant
matter, rats, lizards, millipedes, insects and worms. |
Breeding
The breeding habits of the hog
badger are not well known, but generally the female
gives birth to 2-4 offsprings after gestation period
of 6 months in April. |
