The largest of hornbill species in Thailand, male and female look similar except male has ruby red eyes, female have white. Loud calling in the morning and evening (kahang…kahang)

Description



Regions

south west of India, Myanmar ,Thailand except middle and south east, found in Khao Yai National Park and Tarutao Island in Resident in virgin forest of high level, in small group, breeding season, will stay in a couple, like jumping during feeding and loud call the whoosh of its wingbeats

Diet

banana, payaya, small animals such as leptile by hitting with the tree and bite. After throwing the victim in the air and bite again for food.

Breeding

Breeding in winter to summer, lay 2 eggs each time in the hollow of the tree, female will decorate the hollow, male will collects as much food as it can, swallow it, and theny return to it mate, and regurgitate the meal into her mouth. The female inability to leave her young . She seals herself inside the hollow of the tree usign her own feces (males help with the process from the outside), and stays there until her young are born
